Sometimes the most precious aspects of life are those that go unnoticed. Often, something as fascinating and intriguing as a tree is taken for granted by a vast majority of people. Not only do these lavish creations look absolutely beautiful, but they provide human life with an abundant amount of benefits.

One thing trees do is combat climate change. Excess carbon dioxide caused by many factors is rapidly building up in Earth’s atmosphere and contributing to climate change. Trees absorb carbon dioxide, removing and storing the carbon while releasing the oxygen back into the air. In one year, an acre of mature trees absorbs the amount of carbon dioxide produced when a car is driven 26,000 miles. Also, trees clean Earth’s air and atmosphere. Trees absorb odors and pollutant gases (nitrogen oxides, ammonia, sulfur dioxide and ozone) and filter particulates out of the air by trapping them on their leaves and bark. They also provide the atmosphere with oxygen, a necessary element for human respiration and trees slow runoff and hold soil in place on hillsides or slopes, preventing landslides during rain. They provide food through fruit and other items that are able to be harvested such as sap. They provide wood, a necessary item for daily human life, and increase property value, a major assistance if one plans on selling a house. Trees serve as a shelter for wildlife and are a great way to encourage children to spend more time outside as one can build tree houses and go tree climbing, a thrilling and enjoyable activity.

Overall, trees and many more items related to nature are excellent to learn more about the world around humanity. Often, it is vital to disconnect oneself from the rush of work, stressing about projects needed to be completed, and the latest technology. When one is able to take a break from the stress of life and take several moments to bask in nature and enjoy the precious gifts it has to offer, they may find themselves in a less stressed and peaceful environment as they will discover what a treasure life truly is.

    Ana,
I very much enjoyed reading and learning about trees from your post. Nice touch with the use of alliteration in the title!
